PABLO MUÑOZ

The Broad Superintendents Academy Class of 2006
Superintendent of Schools
Elizabeth Board of Education, N.J.

“I am interested in being a superintendent in a large urban school district because I am driven by the challenge to help inner-city children benefit from improved educational experiences and services. My mission is to lead an educational system that will inspire every student to think, to learn, to achieve and to care.”

In May 2006, Pablo Muñoz’s career came full-circle when he was appointed superintendent of Elizabeth Public Schools in Elizabeth, N.J., the district he attended as a student. Today, Elizabeth has 22,000 students and 28 schools. Muñoz has served his entire career in Elizabeth in roles including acting superintendent, assistant superintendent of schools, director of curriculum and instruction, supervisor of social studies and high school teacher. He earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Yale University and a master’s degree in educational administration from Teachers College at Columbia University.  Muñoz is a graduate of the 2006 class of The Broad Superintendents Academy.
