Program Overview: Placement
While participating in the Academy or upon completion of the training, Fellows are expected to actively search for a superintendency in a large urban district. The Academy has senior staff members dedicated to assisting Fellows in their job search. We provide coaching, guidance and information about current or upcoming superintendent vacancies in urban districts across the country.
The Academy does not guarantee its participants jobs, nor does it serve as a placement agency. However, the Academy is well-known nationwide for the quality of its program and participants and is well connected with the executive search firms that handle superintendent searches.
Many factors influence the ease and speed with which a Fellow is placed in a position. Among these factors are geographical flexibility (the more districts in which a Fellow is willing to work, the more positions are likely to be available), the types of positions that are appropriate for a Fellow’s background and the Fellow’s commitment to finding a position.
To receive ongoing assistance, support and training from The Academy, Fellows must accept a position in one of 200 “eligible districts” within 12 months of completing training.
